Maths Olympiad Tutor

Remote Position

We are looking for UK Qualified Teachers who are also exceptional communicators. You will guide small groups of the UK's brightest 10-14 year olds, helping them navigate the struggle of unfamiliar problems and preparing them for Gold Awards in the JMC and Olympiad qualification.

Essential Requirements

  • UK Qualified Teacher: You hold QTS or have significant formal teaching experience within the UK education system.
  • Competition Expertise: You have personal experience teaching towards and participating in UKMT challenges (JMC/IMC) and Olympiads.
  • Evening Availability: You are available to work flexible hours between 5pm - 8pm on weekdays. This requires a minimum weekly commitment within these peak times, with the potential to increase hours if you desire.

About The Role

  • Guide Discovery: You are not a lecturer. Your job is to ask the right questions when a student is stuck, scaffolding their thinking without robbing them of the "Aha!" moment.
  • Small Group Mentorship: You will manage groups of 4-6 students, fostering a culture where they collaborate, share ideas, and celebrate mistakes.
  • High-Level Mathematics: You must be comfortable with the content of the UKMT Junior and Intermediate challenges, including geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.

Character Requirements

We hire for character and train for skill. We are looking for:

Radical EmpathyYou understand the emotional vulnerability of a "smart kid" struggling in maths for the first time.
Intellectual HumilityYou don't need to be the smartest person in the room. You love elegant solutions from students.
Infectious EnthusiasmYou genuinely love maths puzzles. Your excitement is visible and contagious.
